Blair Jenkins has been Head of News & Current
Affairs at BBC Scotland since January 2000.
One of Scotland’s most experienced broadcast
journalists, he started his career as a reporter with the Evening
Express in Aberdeen and was Young Journalist of the Year in the
Scottish Press Awards in 1977. He joined the BBC as a news trainee
in 1980 and worked as a Producer on the Nine O’Clock News
before returning to Glasgow to produce Reporting Scotland in 1984.
Blair joined Scottish Television in 1986 and was
successively Controller of News and Current Affairs, Head of Regional
Programmes and then Director of Broadcasting.
He is currently Chairman of BAFTA Scotland and
a member of the Royal Television Society specialist committee on
Current Affairs.
Born in Elgin in 1957, he attended Elgin Academy
and then Edinburgh University where he graduated MA with first-class
honours in English Language and Literature.
